The Omoda E5 is £430 cheaper to buy. Running costs are almost identical - about £176 a year either way, at 8,000 miles on an off-peak home tariff. Add 5 years of charging and the Omoda E5 comes out roughly £510 cheaper overall. These figures cover list price and home charging only - insurance, servicing, tyres and depreciation will move the real total.
EVcarsguide estimates a real-world motorway range of about 199 miles for the MG ZS EV and 194 miles for the Omoda E5 - effectively matched, and both well below their WLTP figures because sustained high speed is the hardest case for an EV. A rapid charge to 80% takes around 36 minutes in the MG ZS EV and 28 in the Omoda E5, so the Omoda E5 loses less time at each stop.
The two are within 21 mm on width, so neither is meaningfully easier to thread into a tight space. In a standard 2,400 mm bay that leaves about 591 mm of total clearance for the MG ZS EV and about 570 mm of total clearance for the Omoda E5. The Omoda E5 also turns in a 0.4 m tighter circle, which helps with U-turns and multi-storey ramps.
Over a 8-year ownership window EVcarsguide's degradation model projects roughly 90% battery health for the MG ZS EV and 90% for the Omoda E5. That is close enough that capacity loss should not decide between them. The Omoda E5's LFP-type pack tolerates daily 100% charging, while the MG ZS EV's NMC-type pack lasts longest kept to about 80% for everyday use. The Omoda E5 has the longer battery warranty at 8 years, versus 7 for the MG ZS EV.
