Buying a Used MG S6 EV (2025 on): SE, Trophy or Dual Motor & What to Pay

By Elace Grace··7 min read

The MG S6 EV is a family-sized electric SUV competing with the Skoda Enyaq and Tesla Model Y. UK sales began in late 2025 with prices of £37,995 to £43,995, followed by rapid depreciation: more than 40% of advertised S6s are already used. This guide explains the three versions, the warranty and its requirements, owner reports and the prices to pay. You will find a print-out checklist at the end.

The short version
  • Steep depreciation: a 2025 Trophy Dual Motor originally costing £43,995 new asks about £27,500.
  • Check new prices too: new SEs had advertised prices around £25,100, against a £37,995 list price.
  • 7-year warranty: 7 years / 80,000 miles on the car and 8 years / 100,000 miles on the battery, if it is serviced on time.
  • Five-star safety from Euro NCAP (2025).

Which S6 are you looking at?

  • SE Long Range (£37,995): 77 kWh battery, 180 kW rear-wheel drive and 329 miles WLTP.
  • Trophy Long Range (£40,995): identical powertrain, with additional equipment fitted.
  • Trophy Dual Motor (£43,995): 266 kW (361PS) four-wheel drive, 0–62 mph in 5.1 seconds and 301 miles.

Adverts list the car as “MGS6”, with the Dual Motor version described as “Trophy 4WD”. Complete specifications are on the S6 EV page.

Recalls

The government recall list recorded no S6 EV recalls in October 2026. Still check the individual car using GOV.UK’s recall checker and ask whether its software updates are complete.

Warranty

MG covers the car for 7 years or 80,000 miles from first registration and, on cars registered from 2024, the battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles. The cover transfers to you, but only if the car has been serviced by MG on time, and it is cut to 3 years / 60,000 miles on cars used for private hire.

  • Registered 2025: car covered to 2032; battery to 2033.
  • Registered 2026: car covered to 2033; battery to 2034.

Realistic range

Our estimates for typical cars of each age use the battery-ageing model applied throughout the rest of EVcarsguide:

CarSummerYear-roundWinter
2025 Long Range (RWD)272 miles240 miles201 miles
2025 Dual Motor (AWD)250 miles220 miles185 miles

These figures assume the battery has aged like a typical car’s. Gentle driving beats them, while fast motorway driving falls short.

What owners report

Evidence is very limited so far: we found just one UK owner thread, so treat these as early impressions rather than an established pattern. Contributors appreciated adaptive cruise on longer journeys, efficiency of around 4.2 miles/kWh and value for money. Criticisms included software fixes requiring dealer visits rather than over-the-air updates, a wireless phone charger that does not suit every phone, steering-wheel alerts appearing during adaptive cruise use and breakdown cover limited to a year. We will expand the summary as more owners contribute.

What to pay

More than 40% of advertised S6s are already used, reflecting their rapid depreciation. Here are the current asking prices for those used examples:

CarsShare of advertsMedian askingTypical rangeMedian mileage
2026 Trophy Long Range35%£29,045£27,464–£31,5972,937
2025 Trophy Dual Motor23%£27,495£27,154–£28,2695,214
2026 Trophy Dual Motor33%£28,995£28,105–£30,3955,045

Used or new? New and ex-demo listings were substantially below list price, around £25,100 for an SE Long Range, £38,800 for a Trophy Long Range, alongside £41,000 for a Trophy Dual Motor. A nearly new Trophy priced at £27,500–£29,000 saves around £10,000 against a new Trophy. However, a discounted new SE may offer the cheapest entry point. Treat these as asking prices rather than valuations.

Questions to ask the seller

  1. Can the seller confirm whether this MG is the SE, Trophy Long Range or Trophy Dual Motor version from its records?
  2. Can the seller provide MG service records and invoices showing when scheduled maintenance was completed?
  3. Was this MG previously a demonstrator, company car or private hire vehicle, and is its usage history documented?
  4. Are the software updates done?
  5. Are both keys and the charging cable included?
