The BYD Atto 3 introduced the Chinese brand to the UK, going on sale in March 2023 with prices of £36,490 to £38,990. In April 2026, the Atto 3 EVO replaced it, bringing a larger battery and substantially quicker charging. All used Atto 3 adverts still cover the original model. We explain its exceptionally long warranty, charging, owner reports and prices to pay. You will find a print-out checklist at the end.
- Long warranty: 6 years on the car and 8 years / 250,000 km on the battery, as long as it has a full BYD service history.
- Slow rapid charging: the original model peaks below 90 kW, making patience necessary on longer journeys.
- Get an insurance quote first: owners describe some insurers refusing quotes, with substantial differences between the premiums available.
- Price check: a 2023 car asks about £18,000; some unregistered examples of the original car remained advertised new around £24,000.
Which Atto 3 are you looking at?
- Atto 3 (2023–2026): a 60.48 kWh LFP “Blade” battery with 204hp front-wheel drive, 260 miles WLTP, roughly 88 kW rapid charging and 11 kW AC. Trims are Active, Comfort and Design. All used Atto 3s currently for sale are this model.
- Atto 3 EVO (2026 on): a 74.8 kWh battery provides 316 miles WLTP, with rapid charging up to 220 kW (10–80% in 25 minutes). Design uses rear-wheel drive and 309bhp (£38,990); Excellence adds four-wheel drive with 443bhp (£42,730).

Recalls
The government recall list recorded no campaigns under the Atto 3 name during October 2026. Check the individual car using GOV.UK’s recall checker and ask a BYD dealer which software updates have been completed.
Warranty
BYD covers the car for 6 years or 150,000 km (about 93,000 miles) and, since December 2025, the Blade battery for 8 years or 250,000 km (about 155,000 miles) against falling below 70% health. The battery extension applies to existing cars too. The cover transfers to the next owner with a full service history, so check the stamps.
- Registered 2023: car covered to 2029; battery to 2031.
- Registered 2024: car covered to 2030; battery to 2032.
- Registered 2025: car covered to 2031; battery to 2033.
- Registered 2026: car covered to 2032; battery to 2034.
Realistic range
Our estimates for typical cars of each age use the battery-ageing model applied throughout the rest of EVcarsguide:
| Car | Summer | Year-round | Winter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 Atto 3 (60 kWh) | 213 miles | 188 miles | 158 miles |
| 2025 Atto 3 (60 kWh) | 219 miles | 192 miles | 162 miles |
| 2026 Atto 3 EVO RWD (74.8 kWh) | 270 miles | 237 miles | 199 miles |
These assume the battery has aged like a typical car’s. Gentle driving exceeds the figures, while fast motorway journeys fall short. LFP batteries are known to age slowly.

What owners report
We read UK owner forums and owner reviews, which repeatedly highlight these same themes:
- Well equipped and comfortable: generous standard equipment (panoramic roof, heat pump and safety systems), a roomy, distinctive cabin and soft ride quality.
- Range and charging: roughly 200 miles in mixed use versus the official 260, alongside rapid charging that peaks below 90 kW.
- Soft to drive: body lean, light steering and limited regenerative braking.
- Dealers and insurance: the initial dealer network was small, parts may take weeks and insurers sometimes quote high prices or decline. Obtain an insurance quote and find your closest service point first.

What to pay
All used Atto 3s are original 60 kWh versions, so the table separates them only by registration year:
| Cars | Share of adverts | Median asking | Typical range | Median mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 21% | £17,801 | £16,999–£18,899 | 25,883 |
| 2024 | 32% | £20,420 | £19,474–£21,496 | 13,394 |
| 2025 | 30% | £22,854 | £20,993–£23,745 | 5,927 |
| 2026 | 17% | £24,995 | £23,796–£25,645 | 3,201 |
Used or new? The Atto 3 does not qualify for the government’s Electric Car Grant. A small number of unregistered original Atto 3 Designs remained advertised new around £24,000, similar to used 2025 prices but with a full warranty from the outset. The EVO begins at £38,990. Treat these figures as asking prices rather than valuations.
Questions to ask the seller
- Is the BYD service history complete? (The battery warranty depends on it.)
- Can the seller confirm whether this BYD is the Active, Comfort or Design trim from its vehicle records?
- Which software updates have been installed on this BYD, and can you check the current version during the viewing?
- Are both NFC key cards and the keys supplied, and can the seller demonstrate that they work?
- Was it a demonstrator, company car or rental?
